Getting on that hook can be a ***** under pressure, it is nothing like slapping a mag into an M4/SCAR type platform. The ONLY complaint I have with it is the insertion of the mags into the magwell if you are unfamiliar with it. If I had to go to war and could only grab one of my rifles, it would without a doubt be my M1A. Also as for it being an "outdated" design.I cant say I agree, it is different but I would say if anything it is "battlehardened" not "outdated". Especially about the mags!!Īlso to those who say that the M1A is not Sub-MOA accurate, you guys may need to rethink that statement, the M1A is ridiculously accurate, I am VERY confident with that rifle in reaching out and touching someone. I disagree with those that say the M1a is too heavy, maybe with a wood stock, but not with synthetic and definitely not with an aftermarket stock. (I have probably rambled and confused you more than helping you).ĬRABBY, I agree completely and you hit exactly how I feel. I love em' both and I am sentimentally attached to the M1A. they are not yet "totally proven" yet in terms of long-term reliability, etc.īottom line. other than the fact that mags are not readily available and in my mind. they win out over the M1A in virtually every category.

IF the SCARs prove to be as reliable (long term). In my mind, there is a definite reason this time tested and battle proven rifle is still in service with the US Armed Forces! Having said all of that. and is equipped with bipod, light/laser, etc. It has the SA Custom Shop trigger job (sweet!) and the extended top rail. it becomes a rock solid "fixed" firing station/position (note. Most importantly, I trust it without reservation! I can pop in my 100 round BETA mag/drum. Another strength is that 20 round magazines are plentiful! One other strength is that I have found it to be very, very accurate (for a 16 inch barrel). The SOCOM II has a specially designed muzzle brake/compensator that is one of its strengths! Felt recoil is greatly dampened (more than the SCAR).

I disagree with those who say the SCAR has less felt recoil.

HOWEVER, it eats any ammo I feed it, feels rock solid, and can seemingly fire forever. It is indeed heavier than the SCAR, feels a little chunkier, needs a cheek pad riser in order to get the correct sight picture with optics (it was designed for iron sights), etc. Click to expand.I have a couple of both (SCARs and M1As) and I love em' all (like a proud poppa - LOL).
